The 25th Annual LA Art Show Is February 5-9, 2020

This February, the Los Angeles art scene will attract artists, galleries, and collectors from around the world with a series of high-profile art events. On February 5, the LA Art Show will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and as a longtime media partner, Cartwheel Art sends our congratulations out to everyone who has made the show such a success over the years.

Last year, LA Art Show producer Kim Martindale talked to Cartwheel about how the show started out with 12 or 14 dealers and a focus on 19th and early 20th century work. Over the years, it has grown tremendously, and it now bills itself as “the most comprehensive international contemporary art show in America.” However, that doesn’t mean it’s done growing.

“For 25 years, LA Art Show has been raising the profile of the LA art scene, as well as bringing more and more compelling art to our market,” says LA Art Show producer? Kim Martindale?. “I’m excited by the clear impact this has had on our city and looking forward to expanding the show even further.”

The M.C. Escher Experience

By M.C. Escher

Presented by Walker Fine Art

Exploring the intersection of art, mathematics, science and poetry, Escher’s work has fascinated and astounded generations of artists, architects, mathematicians, musicians and designers alike. Over 40 years, Walker Fine Art has assembled the largest collection of Escher works in the world, and will showcase the “rarest of the rare” at the 25th Annual LA Art Show. The M.C. Escher experience runs the span of his entire career, and will include rarely seen lithographs, wood cuts, engravings, and mezzotints, as well as the artist’s iconic custom furniture. Many of these will be shown in California for the first time ever. In addition to seeing the artist’s work up close, LA Art Show attendees will have the opportunity to become Escher. A special photo-booth will recreate his iconic sphere

self portrait with you in the reflection.

This year, the show will premiere its European Pavilion, a new section that will feature more than a dozen contemporary European galleries, focusing on exhibitors and artists from Spain, Italy, and the UK, and including a special showcase of Catalan art from 1900 to the present.

The 2020 LA Art Show will also include the third edition of the DIVERSEartLA ?showcase. Curated by ?Marisa Caichiolo, it will be a celebration of pride in LA’s cultural diversity. This special programming section of the fair is dedicated to exhibiting the institutions, artists, and non-profits from Southern California, around the Pacific Rim, and beyond. The LA Art Show is donating 20,000 square feet of exhibition space to the participating organizations. The 2020 lineup for ?DIVERSEartLA includes LACMA, The Broad?, ?La Neomudejar Museum from Madrid, MOLAA, Art AlLimite, ?LAArtAssociation?, the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center?, and many others. The work featured in the DIVERSEartLA showcase is not for sale.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the LA Art Show with a rare yet magnificent event that will reflect LA’s vast natural spaces and cultural diversity,” says DIVERSEartLA curator ?Marisa Caichiolo?. “While the city’s communities reflect a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, its environment reflects a richness of natural areas. Next year’s curatorial focus will be expanded to embrace and celebrate those art institutions and art collectors who support LA’s blossoming art community.”
