LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR 2014

 LA Shorts Fest to Showcase Shorts Directed by Luke Wilson, James McTeigue, and Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Mark Strong, Tony Hale, Jerry Stiller, Edward Asner, Sam Jaeger, Burt Young and Camilla Belle

 Hollywood, CA (July 16, 2014) – The 18th annual Los Angeles International Short Film Festival will run from July 24th to 31st at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood. This year, the LA Shorts Fest will showcase 233 films from 17 countries, including the USA, France, Australia, Chile, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, Uruguay, Germany, Colombia, Sweden, Thailand, South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand, Israel, and Spain. The 2014 jury features Steve Pond, an award winning entertainment and pop culture columnist for The Wrap, Jeremy Kay, the US editor of Screen International Magazine, and Jill Sanford, VP of Animation Development at Nickelodeon. The jury will select the winners in each of the festival’s 8 categories, 7 of which are officially recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences and are eligible to receive Oscar nominations.

Along with the festival selections, the LA Shorts Fest will also present several special film screenings and panel discussions on Tuesday, July 29th. At 3:15pm, Partizan, a leading producer of music videos, commercials, films, animation, and pioneering interactive media, will hold a Short Film and Music Showcase, ending with a discussion by its directors and creatives. Life After Pi, a short documentary about the Oscar winning but bankrupt Visual Effects company behind Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, will screen at 5:30pm, followed by a panel discussion on VFX community and the film industry as a whole.

Most notably, Disney Animation and Disney Interactive will host a Special Screening and Panel Discussion on Tuesday, July 29th at 1pm. Speakers include:

Dave Bossert, Producer, Creative Director and Head of Special Projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios. He currently oversees numerous projects for various divisions across The Walt Disney Company globally. Dave works in a variety of animation techniques, including 2D, CG, & Live Action combinations; 3D & specialty projection formats.

Mark Watters, featured composer in ‘The Tunes Behind the Toons’ is a six-time Emmy Award winning American composer of music for film and television. Mark is known for his work on Goof Troop (1992), Aladdin (1994) and Bonkers (1993).

Jon Burlingame, the nation’s leading writer on the subject of music for films and television. He writes regularly for Daily Variety and the Los Angeles Times, and has written on the topic for such other publications as The New York Times, Washington Post, New York Daily News, Entertainment Weekly, Premiere, Emmy, and The Hollywood Reporter.
