This work is a reflection on 20 years as a pianist/composer
in Los Angeles. There is also a homage to a former colleague
Vocalist/Composer Meredith Monk as part of the work. The flute
takes on some of the vocal sonorities that Meredith created and
perfected and translates them into the contemporary instrumental
idiom. Although there isn’t really a “jazz” inference directly in the music,
the work has a impromptu and improvisatory feel, hiding an innate sense of form.
The listener might well spy the career long “possession” of classical music and jazz.
