APERTURA SHOWCASE & THE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE ANNOUNCE THE LOS ANGELES PREMIERE OF AWARD-WINNING FILM H.O.M.E.

Named as one of U.S. Latino Filmmakers with directorial debuts “to watch out for” – Chicana From Chicago
Hollywood, California (May 10, 2017) – Apertura Showcase in association with The American Cinematheque are proud to announce the Los Angeles premiere of H.O.M.E. at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at The Egyptian Theatre. There will be a panel discussion after the film with director Daniel Maldonado and cast members.

The award-winning feature film H.O.M.E. directed by Daniel Maldonado and produced by Darren Dean (TANGERINE) explores the disengagement among New York City’s melting pot.

The film follows several characters as they seek to find their own “Home” in a crowded and ethnically diverse, New York City. Using characters such as runaway with Asperger’s Syndrome (a developmental disorder affecting ability to effectively socialize and communicate) played by Jeremy Ray Valdez, an Ecuadorian immigrant driver estranged from his daughter (Jesús Ochoa), and a Chinese woman trying to get home to care for her sick child (Angela Lin). This is a universal story about humanity and the barriers which divide us. This discussion piece on isolation and reaching out to humanity is a film festival favorite, winning multiple prizes from Austin’s Cine Las Americas &
New York’s Queens World Film Festival among others as well as a nomination for Best U.S. Latino Film 2017 (Cinema Tropical Awards.) ”

Apertura Showcase’s mission is to advance, promote and inspire Latino content creators across media while creating a forum for discussion between filmmakers, the industry and the audience. It also leverages the reach of the American Cinematheque in order to expose new Latino talent. Apertura Showcase will also be screening the short film In Between The Gutter and The Stars, 2016, Dir. Diana Lesmez.
